Youth Hockey
The Orange County Sportsplex offers a variety of youth hockey classes, clinics, and camps through our Sportsplex Hockey Academy. We aim to teach kids (and adults) how to play the game of hockey with hustle and sportsmanship. We work hard at improving skills, but also put a big emphasis on HAVING FUN! The staple of our Hockey Academy are the Intro to Hockey Classes on Sunday afternoons, including Hockey Tots for ages 3 to 6 at 3:45pm and Youth Learn to Play Hockey for ages 5 to 12 at 4:15pm. We run 7 to 8 weeks sessions throughout the year – more information, along with online registration can be found on this page.
The Sportsplex is the exclusive home of the Carolina Thunder youth travel hockey team. The Carolina Thunder is a travel hockey program run by the Orange County Sportsplex. All home games are played at the Sportsplex. We also offer a Recreational 8 and Under Mite Hockey Development Program. Please visit carolinathunder.com for more information. The Sportsplex is proud to offer recreational/house hockey league through the Hillsborough Hogs! Registration, roster placement, coaching and financial aid for the 2025-2026 season will all be administered through Triangle Youth Hockey NC. All games are played on the weekends through the Polar House Hockey League, taking place at various rinks around the greater Triangle area.

Spring Youth Intro to Ice Hockey
- All ``Intro`` hockey classes introduce beginner players to the fundamentals of ice hockey with two different groups based on age and skill.
- ~ Hockey Tots – (Designed for ages 3-5) - Players in this course have completed ``Snowplow Sam`` or an equivalent Learn to Skate program before registering for Hockey Tots.
- ~ Learn to Play Hockey – (Designed for ages 6-13) - Players in this course have completed ``Basic 1`` (Learn to Skate) or an equivalent program before registering for Learn to Play Hockey.

Hockey Academy Summer Camps 2026
- The SportsPlex Summer Hockey Academy strives to give your young athlete the best available instruction for the coolest game on earth.
- We will help your child reach their maximum potential in a challenging and engaging atmosphere. Campers will be pushed to attain personal goals and work hard at becoming a better hockey player, while making new friends and having fun.

OPEN HOCKEY CALENDAR
- Stick & Puck and Pick Up Hockey are on a first come first serve basis. Players will be admitted as space allows until full. All participants must wear gloves and a helmet and are required to conduct themselves in a sportsman-like manner.
Shamrocks Spring Hockey
- Shamrocks Hockey provides a fun, inclusive, and development-focused hockey experience for players of all skill levels. Through youth leagues, instructional programs, and competitive opportunities, Shamrocks emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship while fostering a lifelong love of the game. Whether athletes are stepping onto the ice for the first time or building advanced competitive skills, the Shamrocks offers a supportive environment where players can grow, compete, and thrive.

- Join us for our patented two-day intensive power skating and skills clinic. Our focus will be on providing players with advanced skating techniques both with and without the puck used specifically for control, power, and efficiency that translate to game scenarios.
- This clinic is designed for intermediate and advanced level hockey players ages 9-17.
